Mealybug control - Mealybug Destroyer (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri)
Adult mealybug destroyer.

Description
A type of ladybug beetle, the mealybug destroyer has been used for decades to control mealybug infestations in citrus crops. They are also effective in controlling mealybugs on houseplants and in greenhouses.

How it works
The adult females lay eggs in the cottony egg-masses produced by the mealybugs. The eggs hatch into larvae which then begin feeding on the smaller mealybugs and their eggs and continue their feeding as they become adults.

General usage
Use to control mealybug infestations in greenhouses, on houseplants in interiorscapes, citrus orchards and grape crops.

Directions for use
See release instructions for details.

Advisories
Mealybug destroyers prefer warm conditions, over 70 degrees F. If the pests are scarce, they will migrate in search of other food.

Application rates
Release 2-3 beetles per infested plant in greenhouses, 1 or 2 times per year. For infested houseplants, confine 10-20 beetles to each plant for 4-6 weeks. In citrus and grapes, release 250-500 per 1/4 acre.
